Job Summary:
Responsible for the daily setup and operation of hydraulic press brakes and shear operating equipment. Position includes operating multiple pieces of material-processing equipment. The ability to read blueprints, strong math skills, and knowledge of machining principles and welding fundamentals are required to fabricate various products to meet our customers’ specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe work environment in your area.
- Ensure that you are wearing the proper PPE and that the equipment in your area (grinders, shear machinery, brake presses, welders, hand tools, etc.) is all safe to be used and properly guarded.
- Notify the safety coordinator or Shop Superintendent of any unsafe equipment or practices.
- Work in compliance with OSHA safety rules and Wirco, Inc. Safety Policies.
- Keep your area clean and organized.
- Ensure that you are wearing the proper PPE and that the equipment in your area (grinders, shear machinery, brake presses, welders, hand tools, etc.) is all safe to be used and properly guarded.
- Set up and operate hydraulic presses and shear equipment for established work.
- Select correct tooling, load, install, and correctly set up the tools required to produce the correct bends and cuts required per customer order specifications.
- Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations.
- Safely operate a forklift to handle materials and completed work.
- Make routine decisions and use problem-solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues.
- Basic ability to read and understand blueprints and other shop drawing aids.
- Report and document basic material, production, and quality control issues. Perform basic dimensional measuring using measurement tools.
- Participate in equipment preventative maintenance at the operator level.
- Follow oral and written directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
- One (1) year of experience as a brake press and shear operator
- Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired
- Read, write, and communicate using the English language sufficiently to perform job functions

- Sit, stand, and walk for 1-10 hours per day.
- Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, or manipulate objects
- Good eye-hand coordination
- Good physical fitness and sense of balance
